We lost Rusty on Saturday, December 12, 2009. If you know Rusty, it was perfect - he died on 12-12 at 12 minutes to 12 p.m. He was always such a playful person, even in the midst of his extreme pain for many years.
There never seems to be enough time to share the good and fun we experienced from each other. So our family and friends would love to hear your stories and appreciation of Rusty. Please post your memories of Rusty on this Blog. It's as easy as 1-2-3.
1) Click on Comments
2) Type your Memory
3) Select profile from the pull down menu. Select “Name/URL” and type in your name so we know who you are.
Thanks so much,
Steve Springsted, Rusty's brother.

April Fools Day- Rusty put A 3x5 Ad in The
ReplyDeleteGETTYSBBURG TIMES,It said WET TEE SHIRT
CONTEST, call Rich Kreisher for information!!
I met Rusty many years ago. Rich K and I were traveling to Pulaski NY for a weekend of Salmon fishing. The best time for the Salmon run was in Oct. So Rich and I would plan a weekend that was near our birthdays. Rich Oct 12, mine Oct 14. Since Rusty’s BD was Oct 15, he became part of the Salmon fishing-Birthday celebration. The first time he introduced me to some of the fishing gang that came along, he said this is MR Me-off, his first name is Jack. When no one responded he would then come back and tell them, you need to say both names. Of course it would come out as JACK ME-OFF. Then Rusty would laugh, so that’s my Rusty!
ReplyDeleteWhen Rusty was invited to our house, he went to the wrong house. He was sure he was at the
ReplyDeleteright house so he looked for a key. He did
find a key and began to look all through the
the house. Finally he realized that he did
not recognizeany of the pictures, so he put the keyback and left.
Russell Springsted was so much fun to be with! I enjoyed the hell out of em!
ReplyDeleteRusty - God bless you. Right now your service has started in CA and we here in Gettysburg send our thoughts and prayers to you and your family. We've got a candle going to you!
ReplyDeleteSteve, thank you so much for starting the blog. I enjoyed the stories above as well as those told at the service. I remember hearing the Jack-Me-Off story more than once as well as the jello adventure. I will have to think about a good story to share, but definitly remember an embarrassing sign or two taped on my back during junior high...
ReplyDeleteI met Rusty thru Clifford (my room mate in college) Cliff invited me to join his fishing party up in Verona, on the great Desert Lake. We did this a few years, so I really can't remember which year, but after a full days fishing, along with consuming large quantities of adult beverages (wink-wink), we finally arrived back at the McCoys compound in separarte boats. Rusty had caught a nice, large Northern pike,,, and if you caught it, you cleaned it as well... so here is Rusty, he has to clean this pike,,, and not being an avid fisherman with cleaning skills, he does know its easier to clean it if it is not jumping around, so Rusty decides he has to put the ole pike down... most of us would take a good size stick and knock it out or taken a knife and cut off its head.. NOT Rusty... noooo, he heads up to the cabin & comes back with a 2 lb sled hammer and just started whaling on this poor fish... after he caved in the whole head to a point it was totally squished fish head, he proceeded to try and clean the fish.... I can still see Rusty, in FULL swing with that hammer, just ball peening the head trying to kill it...
ReplyDeleteI was blessed to know Rusty and his freindship and was so thankful when out paths crossed in Gettysburg. Way too young to be sitting with God, but the good side is, he no longer has any pain or worries... God Bless you Rusty and one day out paths will cross again...
